Your correct there, it's up to you if you don't need motion detection, then buy the twin cameras, bear in mind they will only be 720hp when both on...also wiring etc.....

http://www.laptop-battery-shop.co.uk/pr ... ts_id/8046

The single on above is the on I would go for, with motion detection...cos you can also use it out side your car.....think of the other uses !

Most accidents you wanna front view.....if someone hits you from the back, it's usually their fault !

I saw a programme the other week where a man had a motion detector on in car and caught a bloke running off with his ladders in broad daylight ......

I've witnesses a couple of accidents, thinking about it a women pulled out on me , I had to swerve and hit a bollard, a camera would have been an open and shut case, as it happened , I had several witnesses who came forward....

Some insurance companies are giving discounts to younger drivers, not one of them though !

Let me know how you get on, I'm budgeting to buy one next month, but fear might have to buy two....one for wife ! Mind you I don't want to watch her videos of her commute home every night !

Also bear in mind it records sound !

''also bear in mind it records sounds''.

Bugger, I'd have to be cautious what I say when I do buy one.
Think I'll go for the first one as you've advised.

Many thanks

Are you guys going to leave these cameras in your car dash.....??

I'd quite expect there would be some good footage of someone smashing the windows, looking at the camera and running off with it.....I don't think you'd ever get to see the footage though!!!!

Also, you might find yourself a cropper with insurance if you leave it on display, it's an 'extra' in the car - some policies have a clause that reasonable care should be taken to keep valuables out of plain sight.

Anyone got a smart phone? There are plenty of mounts that allow smart phones to do this very task. They can record the location with GPS, speed, video and sound. You aren't going to forget to take it with you when you leave and it's only going to cost a mount.

Just a thought.

Well BG, the plot thickens.
Much as I'll investigate this mount issues, my immediate problem with using my iPhone is - battery consumption. Ok, it'll have to be plugged in, so may not be much of an issue.
Then the next problem is receiving calls. My van comes with Bluetooth, so no need to hold phone as once you've sync the phone, its job done. You receive & make calls on the go and the bill can't nick you. Now, if the phone rings, I'm guessing video recording will immediately be disabled so call can be answered after which it will resume? I say this because when I receive a call, the radio is disabled till the call ends.
If you have an accident during that call period, then you have no video evidence.
As for leaving it in van, even my wife removes her tompom, so I'll remember to remove it. The screen marks might still encourage thieving though

You'll need to see what you phone does in that situation. Try it, not hard to set something recording and get your missis to ring you.

To be fair if you DID crash while you were on the phone, would you want it recorded? I'll be betting that with your 'evidence', you'd be footing the bill and the police would be after you for driving without due care and attention.

I can't remember what the legal term for that is.

I would not recommend leaving the camera in overnight.

As cameras are getting more affordable ......in my case, it's going to be worth getting one ! Infact before this post I thought they were much more expensive !

Insurance companies paid another friend over 300 pounds for footage of an accident outside his shop.

It is a bit of a pain to set up but it will be worth it....hindsight is a wonderful phrase.

Also ......it would be fun having a toy like this ......wonder if I could play movies on it ?

Ok, I'm prepared to be the ''guinea pig'' for this project.

In view of that, I have placed my order TWO minutes ago. I have gone for the First one with 6 hour recording facility.

But here is the problem. When I use my card online, my credit card company (I can't remember my paypal details?) always ask me to enter certain digits (2nd, 5th, 9th etc) of my password, but on this occasion, the transaction was processed without anyone asking for this information? I am tempted to report the card lost and cancel it  Am I being scammed ::b

I don't think so, but you could call your credit card company and check.

Not all merchants ask for this code....

Looking forward to some footage.....download on utube ? :huray:

Will do.

Just hope I haven't tempted faith by going down this route?
At the very least, it will be fun recording all the bad driving I come across. Especially those drivers who are always in a hurry. If you must get from A-B in a specific time, then leave early with plenty of time to spare.

I always tell my customers that I will get there between 9-10am, or say 12-1pm, etc. I always give myself an hour to play with. That way, I am always there ''on time''.

Well happy handyman, for some unknown reasons, it has not arrived? To make matters worse, I actually ordered TWO  Why, I hear you ask? Well, the first was not what I wanted. So a few days later I ordered the one you said you would have gone for. Which is what I had actually wanted. I then sent them a mail saying I wanted to cancel the first order. They said NO. That is when I placed the second order.
I'll try and ''track'' the orders later today when I get home and see what comes up. From their email, I should receive it in a week. I'm sure it's now a week or more?

Distance selling regs. You have a 7 day cooling off period. They have to accept your cancellation.

Yes , you covered with distance selling, so no problems......if you paid by credit card....the card company will deal with this....sent them another e-mail ( keep as evidence) and state first product was not fit for purpose, hence second order and give them a time scale.....also ask for discount a slate arrival of second !

And just to add, the 7 days is from the date you actually receive the item - not from the date of order.
