Herringbone tiling

Post by fionabriney »

I hand lifted all my tiles and wooden floors in my bungalow. I am running a wooden effect tile throughout. I have 180 sq m.
My question is I was thinking of doing the herringbone design in my kitchen, dining and living area. It is all open plan. And in my front back hall and bedrooms I was just going to put down tile like an average wooden floor. My tiler is coming tomorrow. He said too much herringbone would be messy looking. Would it?
I don’t think he really wants to do it
Anyway what are your opinions on my plan?
Thanks for any help. 🤓

Herringbone tiling

It is tricky to get herringbone looking right and symmetrical and you have to be careful it does not end up looking like a 1930's public library. On significant jobs like this, you must ask if it is adding value or if it will be a turn off should you come to sell. I suspect the latter, and I think that you should spend a bit of time researching a floor finish that will be both modern and timeproof.

Herringbone tiling

Parquet flooring looks fine when done properly with herringbone pattern, I'm not sure from what the OP is saying:- "hand lifted all my tiles and wooden floors" whether it's parquet or ceramic. There is a lot of cutting involved when you come to do the edges, and most tilers would try to avoid if possible.
One day it will all be firewood.
