My Sky internet broadband connection began to freeze the monitor picture, and after a few hours it froze completely.
I'm under contract so I phoned Sky, and they said it was because my Router was too old (10yrs) and needed to be replaced.
They said a modern Router would be delivered by Royal Mail ...
BUT first i must change my present Sky contract to a new Sky contract for this deal to work.
Confused, i agreed and waited for the new Router - in the meantime the internet connection was suddenly up and running again.
14 days on and no Router has arrived, but what has arrived are a bunch or "Royal Mail" messages saying a Sky parcel was on its way and would be delivered in hours etc. This went on for days and has now stopped.
On the advice of my postman i didn't open or reply to any of the "Royal Mail" messages.
The postie said that, at the moment, there's a mass of hacking and scamming going on with the Royal Mail.
Thoughts please?
Is this a Sky broadband router scam?

There is definitely a plethora of scams around involving parcels and parcel deliveries, but as you instigated whatever is happening by phoning Sky, why not get back in touch with them and see what they say about your router delivery.
Have you changed the contract for a new one yet? It might need that to happen to trigger the new router.BUT first i must change my present Sky contract to a new Sky contract for this deal to work.
One day it will all be firewood.

Same as ayjay, call sky and ask did they send a new router.
(Although I have had similar with BT, internet slows, oh you need a new router, sign up (free) new router in post plug in and hey presto, faster speed.)

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Don't take it personally......

Just as an aside on Sky it is important to review your contract every 18 months. I got in touch with Sky as I had all old kit and as I was getting a smart TV I wanted to renew it all. I have been with them for 30 odd years and I never look at the deal, someone told me I should check it every 18 months. After a bit of saying 'I am thinking of cancelling as we watch Netflix blah blah' I got offered a new Sky Q box, a new satellite dish, and all the wiring sorted. And it was cheaper per month. I have to say it was very good service.

ayjay, thanks for replying.
I will contact Sky but I first wanted some views about scams and getting in any deeper.
SomeoneElse, thank you too for replying and as I said to ayjay I will contact them now that i'm a little more reassured.
kellys_eye, thank you too. Some of the Royal Mail messages asked me to open them which set my paranoi off.
dewaltdisney, thank you for that information. Hopefully if and when i get a new router it will be a better device.
The new contract was certainly cheaper.
I'll let you all know what happens next.
