A new carburetor and gasket is only £6 on eBay. I fixed my son's Honda in 20 minutes.

Have you a link to that one please?
Am I right in thinking that with the air filter off, hunting is a fuel problem, be it a blocked jet but nevertheless not enough fuel getting into the engine and nothing else? By removing the air filter I rule out air starvation.

I like to fix things, can these carbs be stripped down and cleaned, I think it is an aluminium carb

thank you

I would try slightly tightening the springs first. I looked back on my records and I actually got the carb replacement for £3.98 off Amazon, I just checked and it is now £21 so my order must have been incorrectly priced. You can see the same kit by searching eBay with 'Carburetor for Honda GCV160'. Around £10 for the same kit but lots of options.

Invariably they are Honda engine copies. If you take the air cleaner off you can see the carb for comparison to the image.

I have removed the carb, cleaned out all I could think of, blew air into all the jets I could see via an air line and the damn thing still hunts.
I have a feeling carb on motorbikes have 2 jets, one for tick over and one when more revs and power are required, do these carbs have anything similar?

I have wound the tick over stop screw in to increase tick over.... well its not really tick over as its the running speed but it is now faster and not seeming to hunt. Odd, as I thought it was a fuel problem such as a blocked jet

Loads of videos on Youtube regarding issues with mowers, blowers and strimmers that suffer these issues. Repairs are usually straightforward but replacing the carb is often a much easier task than affecting minor repairs!
Don't take it personally......

My money would be on the throttle spring having stretched, I'd be replacing that first.
