New kitchen -- tile floor before or after unit installation?

Post by rlx »

First post on this forum, which is a pleasure to read, unlike some others which are not moderated.

Could you guys let me have your opinion on the subject question?

I suspect this question might not have a 'correct' answer since google finds about an equal number of 'befores' and 'afters'. I can't make up my mind but am slightly veering towards 'before'.

I've tiled after. Reason being, I only lay tiles just behind the plinth - thus saving tiles altho' I did have to re-cut the plinth. Another reason, kitchen fitter may drop tools/units etc on newly laid tiles and damage them. Just ask the fitters to allow for the thickness of the proposed tiles when they are setting the height of the worksurface.
