Does anyone know what this does? It's installed with a pipe doing into the air intake on a 2.5 na diesel engine from a Talbot express motor home. Its got a red button on it. I'm not up to speed on oil burner engines.
Engine runs fine - I just wondered what this part is / does.

Looks to be in the vacuum system? Vacuum sensor (switch)?

What happens when you push the button? (....stands well back.....)

Might be an override to allow the engine to crank in the event of a fuel loss (drained tank, air in the pipework - no good for starting diesels). Guesswork here.....
Don't take it personally......
