Painting after stripping wallpaper

Post by jaylockwood1978 »

Hi all,

We’ve just moved house and started the task of stripping paper and redecorating. Starting with the small bedroom the wallpaper is stripping off nicely and the plaster seems pretty good underneath. What would you recommend the next steps be. Obviously give a scrape and scrub with sugar soap to get the glue off but in terms of painting, should I be applying a coat of something specialised before standard emulsion?
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Use warm water and a scraper to get rid of as much past as you can, wash the walls down again.
Let it dry then fill any blemishes/cracks and sand flat.
Apply a coat of Zinsser Gardz and allow to dry.
Apply topcoats of emulsion of your choice.
