Old kitchen cabinets and paint.
Old couple next door have a run down kitchen, particularly the cabinets. I'm fitting new hinges for them but I'd like to try to revive the cabinets for them. Must have been a good solid kitchen in the past, solid stained wood. I need the easiest, quickest way to prepare for paint. Obviously a sanding but a best way to degrease first? Zinssers 123 u/c and may be a eggshell satin finish top coat.

Degreasing is of paramount importance, any hint of grease or silicone will cause the paint to flake. BIN is best, see my link below which might be helpful.

Sugar soap is very good to get most stuff off and then go over with Methylated spirits for a final before paint.

As DWD said: sugar soap followed by meths followed by a good coat of B-I-N (see the "Painting with BIN" link at the bottom of DWD's posts) and then your choice of undercoat and topcoat.
