I have a pretty big decorating job next week. The walls and ceilings are all being painted white and the skirting white gloss. The carpets are still down so I wondered the best way to mask up. I'll use dustsheets for the floors. I've seen on a few YouTube channels these self-adhesive masking rolls and wonder if they're worth it? I normally just use cheap lining paper with masking tape.

As you know masking up is quite a tedious task so any tips to make my life easier?

Firstly, I run around the skirting with the wider masking tape, tucking it well in, I use a bolster chisel. I usually buy those thin plastic rooms-sized sheets for a couple of quid and then put dust sheets over them as the plastic tends to ruck and tear. That stick-on cover is good for stairs but you have to be careful on wool carpets for some reason? Good masking is seldom a wasted chore.

I should have mentioned I'm using my sprayer.

Iam not a pro but did have to paint the whole house by myself ::b ::b so a few changes of colour on joining walls, I used "Frog Tape" its green and I was impressed with it no bleed through, didn't pull off the new paint, just another idea for you :dunno: A bit Ironic as we live in France.

I'd be inclined to use a stick down carpet roll around the perimeter of the room: https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense- ... 00mm/72304 overlaid with dust sheets.

I used this stuff when I was taking down the ceilings in my hall, it sticks pretty well and will stay down for days. It does come up at the edges where it gets caught and looses it stickiness.

Just be aware that the sticky stuff on a roll isn't suitable for natural (wool) carpets.

Good idea. I bought two rolls of the 10m ones in TS as it's better value. I ordered a 25m roll from Amazon for £10.95. The Amazon one wouldn't get here in time but I'll try it later to see what it's like. If it's any good I'll order the 100m roll at £32
