Metal work bench

Post by JerryX »

Hi all - just retired and getting into a lot of DIY, making and such like.

Got a cheap stick welder and need to bend some bar and fix a few things - while i was checking out a few tutorials on YouTube, I see pretty much the same heavy duty metal bench with many holes on lots of the metal work videos. I'd like to make my own frame with some left over Unistrut, but what are people using for the top and where can I get some at a budget price ?

Thanks

Jerry

Cant advise on the bench as only built ones for wood and used scaffold boards for tops, you could fix galvanized sheet on top but I had this method to show for simple bending device.

Sorry, I would suggest galvanised sheet is the last thing you want with arc welding. You can get "metal fume fever" from galvanised metal as you weld it.
I would suggest steel sheet. Try google, I used to pop into a "steel stock holder" in Chiswick, 3 guesses what they sold. (If asked nicely they would cut it to size too.)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
