DPM on uneven floors

Post by Paulusa »

Hello.
So i decided to take the wood flooring off in my living room and, knowing my luck, the layer under it came off aswell. It was about 20-25 mm layer of some sort of asphalt or concrete mix layer. There was also some sort of underlay or insulation below it. The "underlay" layer was quite damp, deteriorated aswell and now im left with damp concrete floors. The floors got these ridges running both ways, i believe its from spreading the concrete. Ive scrubbed the floors with a wire brush to get rid of as much of the residue as i can (the dark black patches in the pictures), ill give it another go later on. Ill attach pictures.

So im looking for advice on how to damp proof this. Can i use the tanking slurry straight on top of it and then some self leveling compound or do i have to level it first? Or do i use something different, like epoxy dpm?

Thank you.

:welcomeuhm: Age of property, whether it has a DPC and whether the outside land level is below the DPC. Tanking slurry is to keep water in! Whether you use a latex or 2 part epoxy depends on your final floor cover. If you did not have damp in the walls you want to avoid bridging with whatever you are going to use and the plaster work. Its not an easy subject and one fix can cause another issue; concrete is porous and will feel damp if there was no DPM.

Thank you for your welcome.
Tge property was built in 1950s i believe. Cant find exact years for some reason.
It has the dpc and its well above ground level. Ill attach photos.
Doesnt look like there is an issue with rising damp or damp walls unless from blocked gutter and such. Just bought the property in february, so cant really tell if there is a problem.
Thank you.

If you wanted to smooth the ridges then ARDITEX NA state it can be applied to surfaces much like yours and can be followed by their ARDEX DPM; I have no experience with this product; it is likely expensive but good.
