musty smell from back of skirting (Hard Floor)

Post by Currymonster »

Hi, I live in a bungalow with a solid concrete floor, I removed a skirting once for decorating and noticed no damp proof membrane coming up from the edge of the solid floor to behind the skirting to tie in with the DPC course inside the house. I notice a slight musty smell to the room which I believe comes from behind the skirting.

Am I right in my thinking on a membrane coming up the edge of the hard floor.

Thanks

Steve

a musty smell is condensashon which is caused by poor air movement, if you increase the air movement in that area it sould sort it out

It might be a good idea to test the concrete floor with a damp meter, you can pick them up for a few quid

If the concrete is damp then it looks like there is no dpc underneath it, this is pretty common in older houses. One way to fix it is to have asphalt poured over the floors, but it is a big job and skirting boards would need removing as well as the flooring.

It will stop any damp from rising above the concrete floor!

What would you suggest?
