Primer for copper CH pipework ?
Hi. I have a short length of new bare copper CH pipewok to paint and wonder if the Zinsser Bull Eye 1-2-3 I alrady have would be suitable as a primer, as I could find no specific mention of "copper" in their literature ? Many thanks.

Zinsser BIN, Smith & Rodger Blockade, or even clear knotting solution. Needs to be shellac. I wouldn't trust 123 over copper.

I was taught straight on with oil based gloss - but haven't gone back to check those jobs 30 years later.

I've used oil-based satin straight on to new copper pipes. I've seen some of them several years later and they still look good.

... and, I should add, one of your Tiger Kit Paint Stirrers - the best! got me out of a real hole a couple of weeks ago. I had a 5ltr tin of tinted emulsion that the supplier had added the tint to but had forgotten to mix. The job I was on was miles away from the supplier and it would have buggered up my schedule if I'd had to go back to them so I used your paint stirrer and it did the job perfectly. Highly recommended.

The important thing with copper is to clean and degrease it before painting. Just don’t polish it!
