Wall panelling costs ?

Post by jordancorey »

Hi everyone, I am self employed doing home maintenance. I do all kind of work From new bathrooms/kitchens, plastering, brick laying, built in wardrobes etc. I have just done a couple of wall panelling on a couple of stairs. But because I've just started to do this, I'm not too sure what to charge. It's becoming really popular around me and I have a few more to go and give quotes for. What do you guys charge. I know it all depends on where abouts in the country you are but I'm just trying to get an average price and hopefully help some of you guys that might want to know. I make it out of 9mm MDF 100 mm strips. These photos are what I've just finished. I don't know why the photos I've put on are sideways so you will have to turn your phone on its side lol. If you don't want to discuss prices on here, please feel free to email me...many thanks 😊

Wall panelling costs ?

You have to make it work for you, it is a simple calculation of time and materials. I would have thought that there is a lot of time spent doing a job like this. Planning and measuring the job, sourcing material, cutting to size getting it to site, assembly. The finishing is a lot of time as MDF needs a fair bit of work to paint. Assumimg also you have a table saw to cut the strips. So total hours times hourly rate equals Your Price. So £30 an hour for 20 hours ( I suspect it is longer) labour plus materials would give a ballpark of £750 as a guess. Add a profit and you would want at least £1000.

I agree with DWD and would add that you may well want the client to pay for the major material items upfront rather than when you’ve bought, machined and fitted them.

Suppose Dave in Dagenham said he would charge £850 and Aaron in Arbroath said he would charge £306 of what use would it be to you?
Answer, nothing, as dewaltdisney said,

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

 If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

yes definitely get materials up front most people will think it will cost about half material costs so materials up front to cut out the chancers or indeed the something for nought brigade
dont be surprised if they expect a 1k job for say £250 as that is there budget :dunno:

I hate it when the customer doesn't even have the decency to message back, when i've took my time to go down, look at the job, priced materials up and wrote out a quote. I haven't got a problem if they think its too dear but at least text me back.
