Best flux and solder for stainless handle

Post by rlyoung »

The spot weld went on this pot lid and I want to solder/silver solder it back on. I've been welding for 50 years, but this is my first stainless adventure. I've you-tubed various fluxs and solders and brazing sticks, but if someone can say they used something in particular for a similar taks that would be a help. I may not have anything hotter than a MAPP torch. The lower temperature the better, assuming it will be strong enough. All recommendations welcome.
Thanks

Don't suppose you could get better advice than this
https://bssa.org.uk/bssa_articles/solde ... ss-steels/
I have used active acid fluxes and they are quite aggressive, so staining is possible.
I wonder if warming the lid over a hot plate might accomplish the recommended general heating area.
Grid wiring the handle in position before soldering might be an idea.
I prefer solid riveted handles myself

You can get a pop rivet gun and rivet set on eBay for £7.50.

I'm trying to avoid drilling the stainless, which can sometimes be a pain. But I will if I have to. If I do I'll probably just put a big know in the middle. I see this project as a way to pick up another skill, that is, working with stainless, especially heavier commercial stuff.
