What type of damp?

Post by rt-w »

Really appreciate any expert opinions on this please!

Semi-detached house and this is the outside wall. I think this damp might be because the outside rendering needs replacing. I can’t see any obvious problems with it, but it’s very old.
The damp seems to be worse in winter and when it rains.

Thanks for any help 🙏🏻

What type of damp?

That looks like a creeping damp from water working its way under the render. Check your gutters and window caulking around the frames to make sure the rainwater is not finding an alternate route down behind the render. If it is a bridged damp course then you can fix it with a chemical barrier you drill in and inject. As for render replacement, I would look at an alternative (if it suits the house) of cement board rendering as it is cheaper and easier to fix see https://www.cedral.world/en-gb/cladding ... ur-colour/?

Assuming that's a solid wall, (not cavity) it definitely looks like penetrating damp. You also need to check how high the outside ground level is compared to the damp proof course
I think I'll take two chickens...
