Shed wiring, 4 core armoured cable

Post by rayj »

Good day,
Newbie here, first post.
I have recently moved into a new property which has armoured cable running from inside the house then under the garden to a shed 10 metres from the house. The power is turned on and off from a fused switch in the utility room. The previous owner informed me they had it laid by the electricians when they had the property built.
At the moment the cable is connected to one appliance, a Blagdon power unit for pond pumps, air pumps etc. my question is: could I disconnect the Blagdon unit and replace it with a RCD double socket then plug the Blagdon into that ? It would then free up a socket

Why do you think you need a RCD socket AND why did you add to this very old thread?

Sorry about that, I thought I’d started a new post. I thought an RCD would be advisable for other appliances (power tools etc) I could plug in to the spare socket I was hoping to create. If it is ok to replace the Blagdon with a socket direct from the SWA is it a straightforward swap or would it be advisable to get an electrician to fit a consumer unit in the shed then connect the socket from there?

Is the circuit protected by a RCD at the house ?
