Hi, what did you use and did it work? I’ve got the same issue going on and need to seal the wood to stop the creosote weeping. Any advice would be great. TIA

Horrible stuff to cover, I would try Zinsser BIN, two coats.
Otherwise depending on what it is perhaps overboard.
