Hello,
I've recently moved into a house with a large box window in the living room. When looking below the window I noticed two metal loop brackets/hooks protruding out of the wall. They are firmly set into the wall but do move in and out slightly. It looks like the previous owner pushed these all the way back in and then tried fill over them to hide them. As they do not go all the way into the wall, even when pushed right back in, they are not flush with the wall - and as you can see look a bit messy.
I would like these removed so we can plaster over and the wall be flush but I don't really know what the purpose is/was for them, and have a slight concern they could be something structural (seems unlikely but not 100%). I first thought they were some kind of radiator bracket but I'm not sure why they wouldn't be more central and also, I've never seen brackets embedded in a wall like this before. The house is 50's/60's.
Any ideas/thoughts welcome!

Bay Window Discovery - Brackets or Structural Feature?
It is not logical that this could be structural. The bay window structure looks like it is built on foundations. I was wondering if it is a redundant radiator fitting. Is it possible the radiator was moved to a different wall in the past?

Thanks for getting back to me. My instinct was the same regarding it not being structural. Whatever they were for though must have been set into the wall when it was built - and yet I cant see anymore around the house. Yes, the radiator now sits on another wall. The other thought I had was if they were for some kind of window seat/structure that might have been there at some point. It seems I've got 2 options, bring them out as far as I can and saw off enough so when knocked back in they sit just behind behind the brick. Or plasterboard over that section and plaster on top...dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 11:01 am It is not logical that this could be structural. It is strange, it could have been a support for a window seat, a tad complicated, it might have been for a floating look but I doubt it. I would us a thin cutting disc in an angle grinder, pull it out cut, paint the end to avoid any legacy rust stain , push back and plaster over.
