Dust allergy during building work - help!
Hi all! I'm soon going to have my kitchen extended by knocking out the external wall. The work will also involve sanding down an artex ceiling (we've checked and there's no asbestos, luckily). However, I have a dust allergy, and I'm worried about dust from the work in the kitchen getting all around the house. Compounding the issue is the fact that there's no kitchen door.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can manage the dust as best as possible please? I can dose up on antihistamines, but they can only do so much when the house is full of dust, and they tend to lose effectiveness after a while anyway.

Plastic sheet taped over the doorway whilst the work is taking place, you'll still have dust in the kitchen but it'll stop the vast majority of it reaching the rest of the house.

I agree with wine~O, seen it done quite often on house renovations. You will however need some (Duck) sticky tape to hold it in place. If you have loads of money there is one you can get that has a zipped doorway in it. I have also seen the whole half of a house done, not only does it save on allergies, it saves on clean up. (Less dust to clean)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

as wine-o say but on top off that full isolation from the rest off the house with the only way to the work area via an external door fully separating the work needing you to exit the house via another door to the outside to reach the kitchen
but off course fully discuss with the fitter/builder before doing anything
the level off care will off course depend on your allergy

Using the sheet Wino suggests I would build a temporary cubicle that would give a transition area. Easily knocked up with a few lengths of 2 by 1. You could also get someone else to spray the work area lightly with water to lay the dust at the end of the working day. A garden sprayer would work fine.

We use one of these in our workshop:
https://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/t ... time-delay
I brought it home to use while I was sanding a floor & I'm sure it helped collect a lot of the dust that the vacuum connected to the sander didn't pick up. It turned out to be the least dusty floor sanding project I've been involved with.
If I was doing any major building work / renovation I'd definitely have one of these running.

festool are in the process of fetching one of these out although at some 4 or 5 times the cost.
was just discussing it with a mate of mine on a job last week as he had to grind an entire concrete floor and the dust was horrendous even with hoovers connected to his grinding machines

to be honest though i am going to look into getting one as the dust generated daily at work would be massively reduced with one running
