Bespoke FD30 fire door lipping

Post by Idilkachore »

Hi

We are unable to find two non-standard size FD30 doors (34"x82" and 33"x82"). Bespoke FD30 are too expensive and we don't like the blank/flush doors. Ripping out and re-fitting the fire rated frames will also be expensive and it could damage the plaster.

Can we add 2" hardwood lipping to the bottom of the door and an appropriate size lipping to the hinge size of the FD30 door without affecting its fire rating?

Or can we add a second fire rated frame header beneath the existing header, which will reduce the door height, and hardwood lipping to FD30 door on the hinge side. Would the frame and door still be fire rated FD30 compliant?

Thanks

ANY alterations to a fire door must be carried out by a qualified person / someone who knows the regulations. To that amends I suggest you seek help of a fire door expert.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

i dont know the specifics
but i believe must be solid with intumescent strips fitted so anything added must comply to be allowed and random 2" will be in my opinion outside exceptable levels

why exactly do you want a fire door??[personal choice for safety sake or compliance requirements??]
has the present setup already been passed and signed off??
