Hello,
I have two ground to floor sliding doors that provide entry to a storage area of sorts in the Bathroom. 4 photos attached. The back door of the two seems fine. But the from door has these 2 white sections that go along the vertical and the bottom horizontal.
Part of me is thinking I can pay someone to rip the two white areas (the horizontal and vertical) off (you can see in one of the pictures attached where the bottom one has partly come off at the edge where I have used a spatula) and I can clean the mirror area……and get the bottom metal strip (that they slide on) replaced. Would this be sensible? Or perhaps maybe even there are companies that sell the replacement white fittings that can replace the current ones that are damaged?
Or do people feel that these doors definitely need disposing of and completely replacing.
Any thoughts would be most welcome. I’d hate to pay a fortune to replace if some of you have an idea for replacing these rusty white strips and rusty metal base they slide on.They work absolutely fine.
Am a bit of a novice - what would you do in this situation?
Best regards and thanks

I am not sure if that is mould or rust so I think the first thing you could do is have a go with HG Mould spray, you can get it in Tesco for £5. It has a bleach base so protect your eyes and skin, spray over any black and brown marks and leave for 30 minutes. Give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush in awkward areas and then wash down. You may have to do this a couple of times to get it looking good. You can then decide if that is a metal trim to enamel paint it. Come back when we can see a clearer picture after cleaning for further guidance. We always encourage you to have a go yourself, unless you try you will never learn. Good Luck

My guess, condensation, so I agree with it being rust. Reason? the OP said
But no harm trying to clean it off.

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Bathroom Sliding Doors - replace or repair
Hi all, I should have said I tried cleaning off to see if it was mould with relevant product and it did not work so looks like rust. Not sure what caused it. Not aware of any leak. But with it being in the bathroom might I suppose be due to long term condensation. (Am a novice so am guessing from position of poor knowledge on these matters). But in any case I was hoping for replacement white plastic bits to put on horizontal and bottom - so wondering how easy it would be to buy those and have someone fit them…..Wonder if those white bits are standard f it? Wonder if the metal strip at bottom is standard fit? Or whether they come in different sizes in which car would need to have old white strips/metal strip on which doors slide removed and matched. But where would I buy these things…..
