Interior Garage walls damp

Post by Geordie Spock »

Hi

I painted the interior walls of my single brick garage about 5 years ago, and I’m having problems with mould growth.
There is air flow so I’m not to sure what the problem is. I do store my car in the garage (Not a new build where you can’t swing a cat in). The paint I used was just white emulsion that I had left over from painting the interior of my property.
I currently have an electric up and over door which will be replaced soon with an aluminium insulated slat roller door
Would a rubber roof cause this problem? Any advice is really appreciated.

The problem is probably dampness as damp provides an ideal environment for mould spores to grow. This could be caused by the single brick walls not preventing damp penetration from the weather from penetrating through over time. I had a concrete garage in a block in my first house and the interior walls would be covered in frost in cold conditions with the car frosted inside of it. If it is a real issue then you need to dry-line the walls to provide a cold barrier. Whether this expense is worth it only you will know.

In my opinion barrier paint will not solve the cold surface and condensation formed by atmospheric changes. Dry lining is really the only way as you get warm walls. The expense of doing this has to be justified in keeping your Lamborghini Gallardo warm in winter.
