Hi I'm just about to get some chipboard flooring installed then will be tiled over with cement board and porcelain tiles. I want to do what I can to make the floor as warm as possible. Would you recommend I put in insulation between the joists?
If so, how should I do this and do I need to do anything to make sure the joists still get ventilation to prevent damp etc?
This is a 2nd floor bathroom with a boarded plasterboarded ceiling directly underneath. Advice and detail is much appreciated.
Joists are about 170mm depth.

As heat rises, insulating this floor will stop any warmth from the house below from rising to warm the fabric of the room over time. The main issue with chipboard floors is to glue and screw the boards to stop creaking. Also, work out if you need to build an access panel for plumbing issues further down the line. You do not want to rip up to gain access if needed. Make a map of the pipes, cables etc for future reference.

Another point that occurred to me is I would advise you to ditch the tiles and go for a vinyl tile. Warmer underfoot, you lose the floor height of backer board and tile thickness, and they are much easier to lay and fit. Also, they are much easier to pull up if needed. I never understand tiles for flooring unless you are in a hot country. Fatal if you drop something, always a heat sink and cold to your feet. I guess you may have already bought the tiles so sorry to pee on your bonfire.
