Can I apply two layers of lining paper?

Post by JD67 »

Hi. I'm looking to apply a second layer of the same lining paper over two strips I'd originally replaced due to imperfections. The other original strips aren't flush with the two replacement sheets so I'd assume higher graded lining paper was originally used on the wall. I had to replace two strips with 1400 graded paper being unaware what the other lining paper was with it being approx 15-20 years old. I've done a test placing another sheet of the lining paper over the bottom layer and it would appear flush. Would I be ok to apply another layer over the two sheets I replaced bareing in mind I've given the first layer two coats of Leyland Trade Contract Magnolia Matt Emulsion Paint? Would this have any effect when the adhesive paste hits the wall?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Yes this used to be pretty standard, it's called cross lining, usually going one way with the paper and then the other, but you can do it vertical on vertical but avoid putting the seams in the same place.

Thank you. I was worried because I've already got one layer of lining paper which I've already painted with Leyland Trade Contract Magnolia Matt Emulsion Paint, the second layer of lining paper wouldn't stick and would fall off or the emulsion underneath would start to bubble / run.
