leak in shower tray silicone question

Post by finest1 »

hi all

hope you are all well

i have a shower enclosure that deveoped a leak. under examination it seems the silicone has come away from the shower tray. it wasn't like this at first and i think has developed over the last year. the silicone itself is about a year old, but lets say 18 months. is it best to apply silicone on top of it, or remove the silicone and start a new bead?

thanks in advance

Is the tray moving? Check that first

It doesn't look like it has been done very well. As above, take the old stuff off. Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DI4hfHM_Hg to see how to apply new silicone.

yes, when i get someone to stand in the shower, the shower tray flexes and the silicone lifts. didn't do that before. maybe the house moved during the year as i can seen some hairline cracks appear in other rooms. however, i'll follow advice above

thanks
