brick tiles......

Post by amber »

i mean the ones which are slices of real brick? as my new place is barratt-y n thus featureless, i plan to use these brick tiles on a lounge wall n in the opposite wall in the kitchen. not fancying mauling with pointing afterwards, i did a dummy run on a piece of plasterboard (which is what i will be sticking them onto in me new home). i used waterproof tile adhesive, spreading it all over a section then holding a tile in place till it gripped. the result looks really good, as the adhesive showing between bricks is beige coloured n i was worried that mortar might look to dark over a large area. i have made a smaller dummy wall and ensured it is fully sealed with tile adhesive, n when i shower, it showers too, as i plan to do a bathroom wall in this same effect. everything is well secured, so im wondering - what is the thing about pointing? any thoughts, please? and wd you suggest i panel pin the bricks to support them for a day or two in the lounge n kithchen? xx

You can read about re-pointing here- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/RE-POINTING.htm

It's up to personal preferance really, as it is inside it is not goint to get weathered and so you can choose the easiest finish.

It is a good idea to measure all the ingredients for the mortar accurately by volume, so that it is all the same colour.

Probably the easiest finish is the concave, where you point between the bricks and then use a brick jointer to get a uniform finish.

If the bricks are sagging then you can knock in a few panel pins until the adhesive goes off.
