I need to remove a plastic push-fit joint. Obviously these joints are pushed to fit but are they just pulled to remove? Also can they be re-used once removed?

Any advice appreciated

Most push fit joints can easily be removed, but each make is slightly different to remove.

here is how to remove the pipe from john guest speedfit-



Some of these have a plastic locking collet which will need removing, other newer models twist to unlock!


The hep20 ones unscrew-



These have a stainless steel grip ring that often can't be removed without damaging it!

The john guest ones are easy and can easily be reused.

They can be removed, but it get's a bit complicated?

SpeedFit ones can have a split ring that was added to 'lock' the fitting, if this is the one you'll see it, remove the split ring and ....

hep20 ones have a twist lock mechanism twist to lock and twist to unlock and...

to remove you have to push the extended part 'SpeedFit', it's an inner sleeve you'll see protruding from the fitting, it should move in and out, it's loose.

If it's pulled out (like in fitting the spilt ring) it's locked, if you push it in it wedges between the teeth of the fitting and the pipe releasing it.

Can be really fiddly as you have to push and pull at the same time!

Those hep20 are a pain in the butt, I much prefer speedfit


I had an hep20 leak slightly once, swapped it for a speedfit and it was fine

can you post a pic of the fitting, as has been previoulsy said, they all work in different ways.

Sometimes removing the insert is difficult too

I wouldn't reuse them, invest in a new one.

It also depends how much movement you have, it is usually easier to cut the fittings off.
