I have been converted

Post by ultimatehandyman »

After years of using Internet Explorer I have finally decided to join all the nerds and Geeks and I have switched over to firefox

I have been convinced by many people that it is better and now I have had a few problems with internet explorer, I have decided to use firefox instead

Don't go into light!!! :help:
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I use Firefox, never IE except to test websites. Tried Opera, use Operamail for email, I like it.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

I had a techie friend who constantly ranted about Internet Explorer, how badly designed it was. Apparently when designing a website, to get certain things to work on IE you had to do a lot of messing around and trial and error, when they would work just fine to start with on other browsers.

I'm not that techie but Firefox and Safari do fine for me and I don't see any advantages to IE.

Anybody tried that new Google browser that's out?

Chez, don't bin IE quite yet though - Firefox is not fully W3 consortium complient (and neither is IE, but in a different way) so you will probably need to check updates and changes you make with Firefix and IE, probably Opera and the new Google Browser (Chrome) would be good as well :thumbright:

Thanks,

I'll be keeping IE as well because the problem that I am having is also happening with firefox.

Each time I have to log into this site, even though I have not logged out in the first place

I'll try deleting cookies and browsing history when I get time

Sounds like you have got cookies blocked rather then needing to delete

Try doing this and see what happens:
  • In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.
Move the slider up or down to select the level of security.
In addition to using the slider, you can override cookie handling clicking the Advanced Privacy Settings window and checking the box marked Override automatic cookie handling.
    Click Accept.
    Click Always allow session cookies.
    Click OK and OK again.
Reason Firefox maybe doing it is when you install another Web Browser, it often helpfully copies over a lot of settings from your existing one.

I use CCleaner to control my cookies and maintain a "cookies to keep" list in there, and all others get zapped on a PC restart - it is amazing how many of these get put on your system when you surf
