whats antifreeze?

maybe worth checking the cost of the superlonglife stuff as well?
Coolant in my car only needs changing every 10 years - could well be cheaper in long run (normal anitfreeze is 2 years, I think?)

had to drop the coolant when i fixed the diesel heater in the summer, but just filled with water, now i need to put some antifreeze stuff in for the winter. Almost guaranteed that it hadnt been changed since new, so didnt save the old stuff.

Just shocked at the price..........although i'm stuck in the late 80's prices when it comes to maintance, when i was into fixing stuff

IMHO coolant should be changed every 4 yrs even with the longlife stuff; sealed for life gearboxes should have an oil change every 10 yrs.

i know what the dealers say and they have alot of reasons for that stuff but i think changing coolant every 4 yrs isnt going to hurt and at least you err on the side of caution.
