Bye Bye Talk Talk

Post by IDontBelieveIt »

... as my isp - hopeless company.

Any suggestions to whom I should switch over to?

I am leaning towards PlusNet as they seem to have very favourable reports - mind so do Talk Talk and they are total cr4p.

Monkey ISPs .... plenty to chose from

Organ Grinder ISPs .... BT

Just about all these ISPs buy their service from BT Wholesale, so cut out the middleman - go with BT and then, as they say, you'll only have "one throat to choke" if you have a problem.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I use BT at work (less than half a mile away Hoovie) and admit they have been very good but that maybe because we are a commercial user (small admittedly).

Follow the logic of gong to BT...

PS. I have a consumer unit here

I need to sort that out, I know

To SC, or not SC, that is the question (still undecided - I know what I should do)

BT is pricier then most ISPs, but if you depend on Internet Access, then it is worth it (I cannot work without a live connection to the internet)

As and when Hoovie.

Yes BT are but then TalkTalk were offering 'free' broadband what they omit to say is that the 'service' is dreadful, it is close to being fraudulent.

BT it is then, One gets what one pays for, must admit their support has been very good on the systems at work.

It's one of those always difficult questions to answer. You only hear the bad stuff. I don't ever get anyone ringing me to tell me their broadband is brilliant.

Things to consider though are the customer services. If you have a problem you need someone who can help you. For the sakes of saving a couple of quid per month it's worth looking for a company that has
decent ratings in independent surveys. One that always does well is Zen Internet

And I'm saying that as someone who's a reseller for several companies, but not them.

But I do see Hoovies point of view as well. If you go with BT, if there's a problem, BT have to sort it somewhere along the line. You'll get no batting back and forth between them and your ISP if there's a tricky problem.

One to avoid is Toucan - they keep throttling my service as I exceeded 1GB a week on my UNLIMITED service with them.
Soon as I could I moved away from them to BT about 2 years ago and had no real issues with BT at all (the router needed the occasional power-cycle) and speed seems to increase a bit every few weeks.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

Many Thanks Gentlemen.

Yes UHM my SIL is with Tiscali and she has had plenty of unresolved problems. Mind she is female

I have come across Zen and they do seem blooming good only problem they seem to be also blooming expensive....

I ponder but am leaning to BT for the reasons that Hoovie cites.

Zen are supposed to be extremely good, but I think they are a lot dearer than everyone else.

The girlfriend works for a firm that uses zen for their offices.

Zen also do servers, but only windows servers- so far.

I looked at leasing a server from them, but they did not do linux. They were planning to do Linux servers in the future, but I am happy with the servers that we are hosted with now as they have been pretty reliable

Another problem I have is that I have two Apple iMac's here and most isp's are hopeless when it comes to supporting. All they know is blooming Windoze tack. I called TalkTalk support ONCE and they asked me what an Apple looked like! FFS. Mind it was based in India.

Actually - that is a good point - not about Apples, but helpdesks.

BTs aren't really any better then anyone elses, but at least you call a freephone number when you need to call them on any thing at all (you can even call free from a BT mobile to get to the Broadband helpdesk!).

I used to go mental having to pay 50p a minute to tell Toucan their service was shite

Agree Hoovie that is exactly what I thought of TalkTalk so-called help desk. I mean 50p per minute to be asked what does and Apple computer look like!!

Gone with BT, use it at work and it is very good for service, speed and support. Switch over within the week or so. Told TalkTalk to shove their tacky 'services'.

Interestingly TalkTalk could only provide less than 1 Meg bandwidth. BT tell me theirs will be 3 Meg.

Only problem I have now is that I had a TalkTalk landline as well into the study as secondary landline as well as broadband. Now I am ditching the landline services as well as the broadband I have now got to get the other landline extension round to the office - so that's work for next weekend sorted then.

If you don't hear from me then the whole lot has fallen about my ears but I will be back (what is that hissing and booing I hear?)
