Makita blade differences..I don't understand?

Post by ali »

I have a Makita LS1013 and I want to buy a new blade for fine work with oak so I want a 100T one. I have an 80T on the saw just now and it's not quite giving the finish I want, although to be fair, the blade has been well used and is probably blunt now.

I know some do wood, some do aluminium and some do both but is that the only reason this first blade is much more expensive than the next one.....just because it cuts both materials? I'm just checking I'm not missing anything.

Also is this blade any better?

They all seem the same to me.

Anyone advise me please?

The middle one cuts wood AND aluminium but it's only less than a pound dearer than the first one. The last one cuts both too, so how come it's so dear?

I must be missing something but I have no idea what.

heeelllooo ali

cant speak for makita blade quality specificly as i only have dewalt bosh ryobi and freid pro blades

your better with 2 blades [or 3 blades if you want one to cut metal ]

a general use of 40 to 50 teeth that will cut/rip faster but less refined cut

and a clean cut 60 to 80 for very clean cuts but a bit slower feed rate

never cut metal or chipboard with your best blade as they will take the edge off very quickly

if you get breakout[splintering ]use a sacraficial bit of wood/board behind the edge this can be held on by double sided tape although once you go off 90% it will start to splinter again

what exactly is wtong with yout cuts splintering / burning at a guess  !!!

Cheers big-all. I want to cut both oak architraves and the like and also cornice/pelmet which are foil covered MDF and plinths which are chipboard based.

I've been told that 100T is a bit better for oak as it's such a hard wood.

I tried cutting the plinth with my existing 80T blade but it's chipping the edges very badly, even with tape. I didn't want to try it out on the cornice and pelmet as I dont have a lot of that to play with and it needs to be clean cut from the word go.

I also cut an oak window cill and it did burn the wood.

just make shure arbour and blade size match your machine

Don't suppose you know of a site or manufacturer's page that gives the lowdown on the different types? I see loads for sale that mention rake etc but it all goes over my head as I dont know what's what.
