not uk spec [CE mark] but will still work
import duty to be added plus agents fee [if caught]
gtee not valid
repairs may not be possible as american tools may contain incompatable componants
uk 50hz america 60hz
if you tools are nakedthen the risk may be worth it as the tools are fully compatable with uk batteries

and the voltage difference - 110V v 230V - of course (if mains - but if battery, charger may be 110V only still)big-all wrote:not uk spec [CE mark] but will still work

as Big-all says, import duty + agent duty PLUS VAT (all added seperately!)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I buy a lot of kit from the US. Its a bit of a myth that their 110v is somehow different. Also the talk that service agents won't service or replace non CE marked tools. Just be nice and use buy all your stuff from one place. Most shops price match, service and supply everything you'll need. I never use the big buys like B&Q for anything.
I also just found some good news for overseas bargains!

I looked at the gizmodo link and there's a limit of £105. I have seen the list of drills that you own and not many of them would cost less than that, even in america!
I tried to by a pls 180 laser from usa through amazon.com but they would not ship to my address. I assumed this was because it is a uk address. Which online suppliers would you recommend buying power tools from?

Most of the Makita lithium drills I bought where under £100. The drill driver was from Jaclscoolstuff on e-bay. But he's stopped selling MAkita now and only does DeWalt. I've bought a fair bit from maxtoolsales.

Also, you can buy from the Paslode Factory outlet. They only post to US addresses though. Plus it has to be physical address not a PO Box.

You've just got to be a bit clever with your searches on e-bay. And then look on the net in general. Walmart will post to PO Boxes by the way. Also heres a impact drive I found in the time I wrote this. £80 all in!!!

You gotta remember the pound isn't as strong against the dollar as it was a year ago. We where gettin $2 to the £1 back then!
You can use these guys and similar to set up a PO Box address!
