Does it have writing on both sides or just one side?

If it only has writing on one side then tile onto this side

There has been some discussion on this recently on MSE and TT. It appears that BAL have changed their guidance recently, so using their approach and recommended products I think the answer is now the smooth side. I can't get to TT to check as the site's down at the time of this posting. I'll edit it later when I get the chance. I suspect it won't matter much either way to be honest, it's not like the finish side of plasterboard

I've used this stuff for years and always (under guidance from the manufacturer) tiled the textured side.

However it appears Knauf now advise the smooth side is the right side to tile on, so go with that.

And you're right it does have a strange smell, and it lingers in your van for a good two days afterwards.... :?

I bet the smell is not as bad as when you leave artex to go of in a bucket :pukeleft:

I once left some in my van on a warm day and it smelt like someone had taken a crap in my van
