Power tool brands

Post by The Weegie »

How many power tools are made in europe or are owned by european companies.

I was telling a chippie about deals just now with AEG tools, thinking that they were a german company. He tells me that they are now owned by a chinese company and that they are not the same tools they used to be.

Is this true. I mean how many tools are still owned and manufactured in Europe. Okay we all know that manufacturing costs in asia are a lot cheaper than here.

What about de-walt and bosch??

Or has manufacturing of tools in europe went down the drain as well.

You're missing the main big one. Makita Is Japanese however its power tools are built in the UK so you know the quality is spot on.

My Black and Decker BD602 is marked Made in England, opening it up to fit a replacement battery reveals that the battery, motor and electronics are made elsewhere. Possibly only the case and gears are British.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Its ridiculous the amount of stuff thats made in china as our politicos are complicit in sending jobs there as "its less messy and keeps our hands clean"

Local politicos regularly have "trade delegations" to china, meaning who can we convince to send 99% of their work to china? will it be enough to secure that luxury holiday home in guangdon? (yes they are seriously corrupt round these parts)

then again I'd trust german made tools over british any day, a lot of british made stuff is junk, as people "cant be bothered man"

what happened to pride in workmanship ::b ::b ::b

British workmanship (especially engineering) has got a whole lot better since the 80's (you can thank Thatcher for this - removing some the unions power) which is why a number of Japanese car companies came over here (yes, there were other factors). It is also a reason why so many F1 cars are designed/built over here and, not sure if this is still true, but 90% of Indy cars were designed/built over here considering its a US sport.

The thing Britain is famous for is its knockers, no, not the Page 3 type, but the people who constantly knock what we do and especially the knock (press orchestrated) the people who get to the top of their game ::b
