Shower Enclosure (what to bed the tray on)

Post by kiteboy »

Hi again

Before we start going ahead with the bathroom ......can anybody give some advise on shower enclosures

I hope this subject is kind of in the right section

We are planning to get a Mira Flight Shower tray......I understand the the upstands must be rebated and/or the aquapanel should stop before the top of the upstand....I think :)

We are also getting Marine Plywood to level off he floor before we tile the floor as we are planning for electric underfoor heating Im hoping that this should insulate the floor also as the marmox and the like are quite expensive)

Anyway before putting in the shower tray in do we also put marine plywood under the tray and then bed the tray into the plywood with flexible adhesive and then tile the floor around the tray or do we tile under the tray first and then bed the tray onto the tile

Im suprprised on the amount of planning thats needed for this

Thanks for the advise guys

Ply wood under the tray would be best, no need to tile under the tray, bed the tray down with flexible cement based tile adhesive, I believe Mira even suggest that silicone can be used for your bedding material although I would only use that if the floor was level.

Thanks for the info......we will plan to just plywood under the tray then

As a side query does anybody know which method of underfloor heating is best

ie the roll out mat type stuff or the wire method

Are there any make preferences too....ie warm up or devimat or other

Thanks again

My personal choice is the wire system by ****, it's a big company.

The wire system works well on bathrooms, it can easily be fitted around objects like W.C, Basin, curved Shower Trays etc where the Matting system struggles to cover the complete areas.
