How do i fit a ceiling light. I only have a wall light at.

Hi,

My mom as asked me to fit her a fluorescent light on the ceiling at the bottom of her staircase. At the moment the only lighting there is a single wall light, operated by a single light switch.

She would like to keep the wall light , and preferably have the flourescent switching on either with it or from a seperate switch.

Could anyone tell me how to go about doing this.

I have some knowledge of electrics, but mainly to do with spurs, security lights and the ring main side of things. Not done too much lighting circuits before so could do with a shove in the right direction.

can you tell us what wires are connected behind the wall light switch & also behind the wall light... colours, postitions and terminals if possible.
