Lighting Help

Post by Fifer »

Just Moved into my new flat but the kitchen light is just wires.
I have red and black which goes to my switch.
and i have another red and black which is 240v
i've tested between red on the switch cable and black on the other cable and its 190V but drops to 170 when the switch is off.

Im confused. Any advice would be greatley received
But my first guess would be black cable from switch. and the black cable from other cable going to the light fitting, and the two reds together.

Yes that will be how you need to connect it, the black from the switch to the light is your Switched live needs marking with red sleeving or tape. the two reds are 240V in and then out to your switch connect together in connector block . The black that is left is your Neutral. Two earths together and thats job done.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL
