I see on mythbusters they are seeing if its better to leave a light on all day, or swicth it off & on when you need it!. (due the to energy surge on start up)
Well the start up cost equates to the following times!
LEDs - 0.33 sec
Halogen - 0.51 sec
Normal bulb - 0.36 sec
Floresenent tube - 23.3 sec
Energy saving bulb - 0.02 sec
they also tested to see if turning them on & off shortens the life of the bulb.....
5 years of switching on & off for the average bulb!

but the fact its going to run on 25% of the wattage means it can tripple consumption on start up and still be less than the equivilent "normal" bulbjason123 wrote:Being serious for a moment, I cannot believe that the energy saving bulb uses less energy starting than a standard bulb, they are to all intents and purposes a mini fluorescent tube with in built starter.

Ive just become the proud owner of my first ever energy saving lightbulb - cant say Im impressed. You switch it on and its like a 15w bulb for ages and then it manages to get a little brighter up to 75w in total. But why does it take so long to reach its peak? Could do with installing a timer on the switch so it comes on half an hour before I get up. Or I might just leave it on 24/7 cos its energy saving......
