Evening,
I've been getting some small electric shocks when touching bare metal on appliances in my kitchen. I have opened up my consumer unit and I cannot see a mains earth wire going from the earth bar to the main fuse box/incoming wire. Could this be the reason why I am getting these shocks? Trouble is I do not seem to get these shocks anywhere else in the house.
Is it possible to fit this Mains Earth cable myself or do I need to get the local electricity board/electrician to fit it?
Thanks for any help or advice.

i doubt that the reason your getting these shocks is an electrical related problem, more likeley is the fact that everything in your kitchen IS earthed, and you are building up a static charge in your body from walking on the carpet/laminate flooring and then when you touch anything metal in your kitchen you are creating a circuit and getting a mild shock. If you cannot see a main earth in your fusebox, then i would advise you to get an electrician round to give you his oppinion.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

cheers for the quick response.
I think I will get an electrician around to check my earthing for me. Can't really understand why it only happens in the kitchen, especially where the floor is bare concrete at the moment and I only get this buzzing/shock from equipment that are plugged in (don't even have to be switched on).

is all of your flooring concrete or some carpet/laminate? as thats what normally causes static build up. if you hvae no flooring down then i suggest you get a sparks round asap to look at the lack of earthing.

All concrete, it use to have carpet but I took it all up.
From what I understand there is suppose to be a 16mm earth cable going from the consumer unit to the main fuse unit(supplied by the Electricity Board). I cannot see a socket/terminal for this earth connection.
I think I will be making a phone call to a sparky tomorrow.
Cheers
