Hi, New here and a bit of a novice so please bear with me
I am building a wet area as part of my new bathroom
I have the Impey Aqua-Dec system and the tile-safe membrane kit. I'm getting some conflicting information with regards to whether the tile-safe membrane should be applied to the walls, or just an upstand applied.
A further helpful post i found by a user called bstyle commented on the max bedding and tile that could be added to the tile-safe on the wall. With this in mind, i am thinking of proceeding as follows.
Apply tile-safe to floor and have an upstand of 2ft or so. For other areas at risk of water, use a kit such as Dunlop showerproof or BAL WP1 to waterproof the walls. Does this sound OK??
I am using ply, which although i understand is not ideal, is what i have brought so will live with it.
Would welcome any comments and advise
Thanks
Dan

I believe the makers of the Tilesafe membrane also do a product called tough seal which is the correct stuff to use for walls when fixing tiles and adhesive with a thickness greater than 10mm combined, it involves doing one coat and then throwing sand onto the wet coat to provide a key for your tiles.
To me it sounds like a right old kerfuffle
Use Schluter Kerdi instead for the walls and floor, it's just a better system and doesn't reduce the weight limit of the wall at all.

Thanks for the quick reply bstyle.
see what you mean about the kerdi system. Do you know a good stockist for this.
If i am unable to get hold of it, does my suggestion above sound OK. Another post i read said that people had put more than 10mm onto the tile-safe with no problems, but would rather not take the risk hence just a small upstand. Is WP1 OK for the rest of the walls?

The most important part of the wet room is the floor and the first, say one metre or so from the floor, the rest can be covered with WP1 without any problems. The problem here is that you are compromising the job and it's one thing you should never do with a wet room.
If you've already got the tile safe then why not use it on the floor and just use the Kerdi on the walls, I think Kerdi is about £13 per square metre, this would be the best option in my opinion, WP1 is good but you just cant beat an actual made up true membrane.
I'll take a quick look for an online supplier of Kerdi
