Damp Proofing my garage. Help please!

Post by lewistumelty »

Hi there,

Im new on the DIY scene, im more of a computer person normally but since the weathers been nice ive decided to have a go at converting my garage/shed into a bit of a batchelors pad. I live at home with my parents (im 19) and often get on their nerves by having friends round all the time and being too loud. So they have agreed to let me turn the garage into a place to chill out, have a sofa, some chairs, tv, computer etc in for when my friends come over.

I dont know much about the construction of it but ill try my hardest to describe it.

The floor i believe is just a thick concrete slab, its cold but no damp on the floor. The walls are built with breeze blocks and outside some kind of smooth cladding. I assume it has no cavity or anything.

The main problem is the roof, we have a sheet of corrugated iron as the roof , which is elevated so that all water drains to the back of the garage.
This leaves small holes where the roof dips up and down and they are exposed to the weather and insects.

What i wanted to know is how i can go about filling the gaps and stopping the damp from getting on the walls.

Any help will be much appreciated and i will try and answer any questions that you require to help me with this problem.
