Moles

Post by visionwf »

I have a problem with moles. Not the spooks type but ones that dig up my lawn. I am surrounded with pasture land and thats where they come from. I tried a mole alarm which vibrates and is supposed to keep them out but it didn't work. :cb Any ideas?

Other than getting a mole trapper in...

But I await the answers cos we have a lot of moles too. Mind you, we scrape off the mole hills and use it for potting etc, very handy :thumbright:

I use the battery operated spikes and they work a treat.

I've had customers who have tried other spikes without success and then had these ones on loan from me and the moles disappeared. I usually put in a minimum of 3.

Hi.
Don't waste your money on an alarm though as they are a waste of money. My cat caught one for me but I can't always wait for that.

Hi.
By spikes do you mean one of the alarm things that push into the ground and vibrate? I tried one of those and it didn't work.

Yes, they are spikes that go in the ground. Are the ones you used the same as the ones I linked to?

Waste of money. If you fancy having a go yourself, then buy yourself some scissor traps (google Scissor traps for moles)

Very satisfying!

How ever, it is quite tricky. Firstly, you must ensure there is NO scent of you on your hands or the traps. Soak the traps in muddy water before use and wash your hands in the mud.

Find a mole hill, remove the soil and cut an X in the grass and peel back the turf. Carefully insert the set trap and then cover back over ensuring no light comes through. there are more detailed walk throughs available, but thats the very basics!

Good luck!

Best way to get rid of moles is to smack the hills down heavy with a spade after dark.

I have to agree with Milo, I bought one of the above ultrasonic spikes and didn't work at all. The pest was still active within 4ft of the spike. Put a scissor trap into the run it was using and within 2 days I had a nice dead mole.
