pests and other crawlies

Post by devlin »

Hi All
Lasy year was the first time I planted anything at all since we moved here, However I lost all of my transplants and what did grow was very poor indeed low potato yield, tiny carrotts and no brassicas at all eaten by those little white wrigglers
This year I should have a bit more time for planning. So when is the best time to treat for root fly larve etc and with what, I have read a few books but opinions vary I intend to improve soil conditions as far as nutrients are concerned what will work though should I try a general improver or treat each plot depending on what I intend to plant I am in the West and wet coast of Scotland on a hilly location which generally drains well (when it stops pissin it down)

Hi Devlin

Carrot Root fly Killer GPC-136 RRP which is £9.95 per pack from Harrod Horticultural should do the trick. I dont think there is a best time really but the sooner the better I guess.

root fly, take some old carpet or roofing felt, cut it round, make a hole in the middle, slice thru' to the centre. pop over the carrot shoot.

Carrot fly can't lay eggs.
