How to remove old adhesive off walls

Hi, I have removed some tiles off of my bathroom wall and i only want to re-tile half way up the wall. The trouble is i still have some adhesive on the wall can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove this excess adhesive.

if the walls a plaster you can use a steamer to soften it then use a wallpaper scrapper to strip it! just dont go to mad with the steamer as you could blow the plaster
