Ceramic tiles around wood framed bathroom window

Help! I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I can't find anything that solves my problem.

We've just re-tiled our bathroom, including on all four sides of the window recess which had a wooden inset surround. Two days later the tiles have lost contact with the wood and the ones at the top (ie hanging down) have actually fallen off. I have read some advice that says use diluted PVA and some that says definately don't and use a solvent based primer - which is right? There isn't enough space to add a layer of aqaupanel because all the other tiles would be out of line.

What do I do? Any ideas welcome (apart from take 'em all off and start again!)

many thanks

Can you not take the surround out and then put plasterboard in?

Other option is to put expanded metal lathe over the timber and tile onto that.

oohhh unlike me, but you could bodge it......gripfill or silicon them on.

Is the wood varnished/painted?

Wot cement was used??

yes, the wood was varnished and I used unibond allpurpose tile on walls adhesive and grout.

I'd thought of the 'no more nails' option but the bead would be too thin I think for the tiles.

thanks for replies so far.
