Power steering fluid

Is it the same as brake fluid? Or do I need to buy it specifically?

dont use brake fluid
you need to get some proper stuff halfords sell it as
Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid

Second that. It might look the same and do a similar job but they do not mix and even if you were to drain and flush the system with the other stuff the seals are made of a different material. PS fluid rots brake cylinder seals and brake fluid rots PS seals.
Ask me how I know.

Ok thanks, I'll buy some of the proper stuff, thought I could save a few quid by using brake fluid

I expect brake fluid to be dearer than PAS/ATX fluid.

Sorry, I meant I already have brake fluid here in the cellar.
Well, just bought the right stuff, it's Power Steering [b]and[/b] Automatic Transmission fluid, I thought these fluids were dual purpose somewhere along the line

If you're storing stuff like brake fluid, remember it degrades over time, picks up moisture, making it next to dangerous to use once opened.
