Is it the same as brake fluid? Or do I need to buy it specifically?

you need to get some proper stuff halfords sell it as
Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid

Second that. It might look the same and do a similar job but they do not mix and even if you were to drain and flush the system with the other stuff the seals are made of a different material. PS fluid rots brake cylinder seals and brake fluid rots PS seals.
Ask me how I know.

Well, just bought the right stuff, it's Power Steering [b]and[/b] Automatic Transmission fluid, I thought these fluids were dual purpose somewhere along the line .

If you're storing stuff like brake fluid, remember it degrades over time, picks up moisture, making it next to dangerous to use once opened.

Hydroscopic is the term Scruff.
