Hiya folks, I'm drilling through brass and stainless steel, using 1.5 and 2mm bits, they've been braking, what's the problem? do I need to spend more money on better ones or is my technique crap?

Technique!
Are you using a drill press or by hand?

Eye eye,

by hand, am I pushing down to hard or maybe it's the cheapo bits I'm using? never used such small diameter bits before.

They are pretty small bits to use in a hand drill. They are probably grabbing, and the power of the drill is just twisting them off.
Tricky, you need good pressure, but not too much.
What bits are you using?
Dormer/Presto/SKF.... and a few others are to brands. Small ones will be pretty cheap, even for top notch ones.
If you can, get stub drills, they are slightly less susceptible to snapping.

I use drill bits from 0.4mm to 1.2mm all the time and never break a single one! Then again, I use a drill press and I'm quite used to the pressure needed so........
