Hello, any help on this appreciated;
The BT master socket in my office has an extension running from it to another wall approx 10 foot away. The extensions faceplate is one piece with a socket in the middle. When I moved into this office I asked the BT engineer who was activating this line to disconnect the extension as someone mentioned it might affect the broadband service, so he disconnected the wires in the lower part of the master socket.
Yesterday however I needed to relocate some equipment and I wanted to run my broadband and phone from the extension, so I re-connected the wiring. 5, 2 and 3 were connected up to their respective slots - I used a Krone push down tool and was confident that the connections were clean and I checked both ends. I plugged the micro-filter into the extension and connected my phone and router and the phone worked fine but I didn't get broadband.
After checking with my ISP who said there was a synching connection but lots of errors I phoned BT and ended up speaking to someone in sales who mentioned he had had the exact same problem and had solved it by adding an additional micro-filter at the master socket - just plugged in with nothing connected to it. I find this a bit hard to believe and before I start moving the furniture around and having another go I thought I'd post here.
An engineer suggested switching the polarity around by swapping 5 for 2 at the master socket end only.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Check the extension to make sure which wires are connected to which terminal, 2 & 5.
Make sure they are the same colour at the master socket terminals and remove the wire in terminal 3.

Re: BT Extension - phone works but not broadband
Dave, just wanted to say thanks - removing the red wire in 3 seems to have fixed it, which surprised me because I thought the red was just for ringing on older phones amd couldn't see how that would interfere with broadband.
Thanks
Jim
Thanks

Glad to hear that the ring wire was causing the problem, it normally is, and is usually not needed so removing it can cure a lot of problems.
