ATTEMPTED DAMP PROOFING

This is where you can post pictures of extremely poor workmanship, whether it is done by a dodgy tradesman or by an incompetent DIY'er. Instructions on how to post pictures can be found in here.

ATTEMPTED DAMP PROOFING

Post by gamblinharry »

Now I'm no expert but I'm sure this isn't the best way to damp proof walls!

Over the past couple of years the damp on the kitchen walls has been getting worse and I couldn't find any cause for concern outside the house. I'm now in the first steps of re-doing the kitchen and when I removed the units I think I've found the reason.

The walls were skimmed plasterboard which were full of mould. After pulling off the plasterboard, I realised the problem. Some plank had used what can only be described as bin bags to create a waterproof membrane between the wall & the plasterboard :wtf: I wouldn't mind but the brickwork is fine and dry, so in attempting to keep the moisture out, they have actually mangaged keep the mositure in the boards & stop air getting through the walls. Safe to say I have now removed the plasterboard & the bin bags!

That is a real bodge job.

Those bricks look like they are second hand, as some are painted and some are not :wtf:
